Oushak rugs trace their roots to the town of Oushak in west-central Anatolia, in what is now Turkey. For centuries, the region has been an important center of Turkish carpet weaving, producing rugs known for their distinctive designs, rich color, and remarkable scale. They became especially renowned during the Ottoman Empire, when their large-scale floral motifs and warm, softened palettes were woven for palaces and grand interiors.
Today, Oushaks are loved for their generous scale, softened color, and ease. Often centered around oversized florals and organic motifs, they have a way of grounding a room without overwhelming it. Over time, exposure to light and the natural aging of the wool give these colors the beautifully faded, almost painterly quality that makes vintage Oushaks so sought after. -
